Doves Farm Gluten Free Bicarbonate Of Soda 200g
Bicarbonate of Soda is a home baking raising agent and a household cleansing friend.
It can be used instead of baking powder and will help dough to rise.
As farmers and millers since 1978, we care about how our grains are grown. We believe in growing grains slowly and tenderly and how we make our flour really matters to us – the ingredients, the flavour, the provenance and the effect on our planet.
At Doves Farm we have been milling historic, heritage grains since 1978. These grains were once abandoned in favour of modern wheat varieties for their higher crop yield, but we have led the way in reintroducing the grains loved by our ancestors back into the UK. We mill our organic ancient grains using the traditional stone grinding technique, a method that has remained largely unchanged from ancient times.
Take a trip through time and bake with our organic heritage flours of Spelt, Emmer, Einkorn, KAMUT® Khorasan and Rye, and rediscover flavours, crumb textures and baking traditions of our past.
Nestled in the heart of the North Wessex Downs lies Doves Farm, our organic, mixed arable farm. In our little corner of the British countryside, we believe in taking it slow by carefully nurturing our soil and our wildlife. Walk through our fields in the midst of summer and you can hear the soft hum of bees, the gentle flutter of butterflies, calming birdsong of skylarks, and the rustle of our crops.
We are proudly part of the Countryside Stewardship Scheme which works to conserve and restore wildlife habitats and preserve the history and character of our beautiful countryside.
The fields at Doves Farm have a permanent grass margin or beetle bank which provide homes for birds, bats and of course, beetles. These creatures then feed on insects which could damage our crops, allowing us to manage pests in a natural and environmentally friendly way. Over the winter months, crop stubble is left to encourage ground nesting birds such as lapwings and, if we are really lucky, stone-curlews.
So, how do we create this happy environment for both our food and our farm? Our Farm Manager, Darren, keeps a tight schedule. He plans a system of crop rotations which naturally develop our soil’s fertility, controls pests and diseases and allows us to grow our quality speciality crops of English Wheat, Spelt, and Rye which we mill into our much-loved flours.
